JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida zoo is celebrating its latest addition. The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens welcomed a critically endangered Jap bongo calf final week.
The wholesome male Jap bongo calf was born on Wednesday, Feb. 19 to first-time mother, Cayenne.
“Each mother and calf are thriving, with the infant nursing properly and rising stronger every day,” the zoo stated in a Fb publish.
Based on the zoo, Jap bongos are critically endangered attributable to habitat loss and poaching. A 2007 census concluded that there are solely about 47 to 140 left within the wild.
“Every delivery is an important step towards their conservation,” the zoo stated.
