    WASHINGTON D.C. (WFLA) — Rep. Kathy Castor (FL-14) is working to enhance value transparency for accommodations, motels, and inns.

    Rep. Castor is introducing a bipartisan invoice, the Accommodations Charges Transparency Act of 2025, alongside Younger Kim (CA-40), Russell Fry (SC-07) and Kevin Mullin (CA-15).

    The invoice prohibits unfair or deceptive worth promoting for short-term lodging. It will require listings to show the full and last worth of companies, disclosing all of the necessary and resort charges.

    “Households shouldn’t should play a guessing recreation when planning a visit. Sneaky hidden charges are a burden. They drive up prices and depart households pissed off at checkout,” Rep. Castor mentioned. “Our bipartisan Resort Charges Transparency Act will rein in out-of-control junk charges and decrease prices, making certain that the value you see for lodge stays is the value you pay—no hidden charges, no surprises. It’s about equity, transparency and saving hardworking households each money and time to allow them to give attention to making reminiscences collectively, not worrying about surprising expenses.”

    Rep. Kim argued that deceiving charges can add up, particularly at a time when households might be struggling to make ends meet with rising prices. She hopes the transparency will assist vacationers price range and make life inexpensive.

    In the meantime, Rep. Mullin mentioned shoppers have a proper to know what they are going to be paying upfront and never be blindsided by hidden charges.     A violation of the Resort Charges Transparency Act would lead to penalties from the Federal Commerce Fee.

    The invoice, which was launched within the 118th Congress, handed within the Home in June 2024. The invoice would take impact 450 days after the enactment of the Act.
