NAVAL STATION MAYPORT, Fla. – Naval Station Mayport will welcome a brand new ship for the second time in as many days on Monday.
The USS Nantucket, which was commissioned in Boston earlier this month, will now name the bottom dwelling.
The Freedom-class fight ship is the fourth to bear the identify Nantucket.
The USS John Basilone, the Navy’s newest missile destroyer, arrived in Mayport on Sunday after being commissioned in New York Metropolis.
Households and family members celebrated the crew’s arrival in Mayport. Some hadn’t seen one another in months.
“It’s been the longest I’ve ever been with out these, my infants and my child and it’s an absolute privilege and honor to serve for them,” sailor Corey Bernstein stated.
For Lt. Maggie Willetts, it was her first time being at sea after having a toddler.
“It actually means rather a lot to be dwelling with him since he wasn’t up with me once we have been up within the yard,” Willetts stated.
Extra households will likely be reunited once more on Monday when the USS Nantucket docks someday after 2 p.m.
