HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — After months of protests, the way forward for Florida’s state parks has been determined.
Gov. DeSantis signed a brand new legislation, unanimously handed by state lawmakers, stopping any tasks on protected lands.
The State Park Preservation Act will shield all 175 of the state parks by stopping builders from constructing golf programs, resorts or different industrial tasks on state park land.
The newly signed legislation comes after widespread outrage towards a proposed plan from the state final 12 months to develop 9 state parks.
“I do not assume that they’ll cease at a single pickleball courtroom, or one little path, or one little glamping web site. I feel that when that door is opened, it should proceed on till there is no extra wild Florida left,” Gia Medina mentioned.
The invoice doesn’t ban all developments, however any future proposals must be conservation-based, and help actions like mountaineering, kayaking and tenting.
Lawmakers mentioned they’ve heard the considerations over growth loud and clear and demand preservation of the parks shall be protected.
“What we’ve got in our panorama is irreplaceable and as soon as it is gone, we’re by no means going to get it again,” Medina mentioned.
Now that the invoice has been signed into legislation, it’ll take impact in July.
