WAYCROSS, Ga. – A Christmas Day fireplace destroyed a historic home in Waycross, Georgia, leaving 10 residents displaced.
The house, situated simply south of the nook of Gilmore Road and Drane Road, was a Victorian-style construction transformed into eight flats that’s now a complete loss.
Interim Hearth Chief Jim Blackburn described the house as an “outdated, Victorian-style home, most likely early 1900s, which we name balloon-framed development.”

The Waycross Hearth Division acquired the decision round 2:30 p.m. after reviews that residents had been trapped inside.
Upon arrival on the scene, officers famous that everybody had already evacuated.
Three individuals had been handled on the scene for accidents, and one was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening accidents. Firefighters remained on the website for greater than 6 hours to make sure the flames had been fully extinguished.
