    TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida state workers will get an additional time without work for the Fourth of July vacation, Gov. Ron DeSantis introduced Monday.

    The governor mentioned state places of work might be closed on Thursday, July 3, “in celebration of America’s 249th Independence Day weekend and as Florida leads as much as America’s 250th anniversary.”

    State places of work may also be closed on July 4.

    “In anticipation of America’s upcoming semiquincentennial celebration in 2026, I’m giving state workers an extended weekend this yr to have fun,” DeSantis mentioned. “I hope our state workers use this extra day off to take pleasure in Florida’s Freedom Summer time with their family members and mirror on the significance and that means of our nation’s founding.”

    The governor’s workplace mentioned the four-day weekend will profit practically 100,000 workers within the State Personnel System.

    DeSantis additionally introduced that state workers will obtain a 2% increase, which is able to go into impact on July 1. It won’t be utilized to the governor’s wage.
