ORANGE CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man was bitten by a bear after the animal received ahold of his canine final month, in accordance with NBC affiliate WESH.

On Dec. 20, Blake Sprout, of Volusia County, mentioned he let his canine out to make use of the lavatory at their dwelling.

“As quickly as I opened the door, there have been three bears there,” he instructed WESH. “Earlier than I might cease my canine, they only ran out to the bears.”

That is when the bear reportedly grabbed Sprout’s Pomeranian combine, named Karen, and would not let her go.

“I could not let her die,” Sprout instructed WESH. “She was screaming in ache.”

After kicking the bear to get it to launch his pup, the bear attacked Sprout and bit him within the abdomen, the report mentioned.

The bear reportedly shifted his focus again onto the canine, and ran down a highway, holding Karen in its mouth. Sprout mentioned he threw rocks on the bear till it dropped his canine.

WESH reported that Sprout and Karen are each recovering. Karen received a number of stitches, whereas Sprout received rabies photographs.

Now, the household is taking further precautions.

“I am extra cautious once I come exterior, and I test earlier than I stroll out with the canine,” Sprout mentioned.

In response to WESH, Florida Fish and Wildlife set out traps, capturing a feminine bear and three feminine cubs within the space, who have been all safely relocated.
