    Miami residents fear city proposal threatens tree canopy

    MIAMI – Miami residents gathered at metropolis corridor to voice their opinions on a tree ordinance.

    They’re accusing metropolis leaders of making an attempt to make it simpler for builders to chop down timber.

    “Our present ordinance just isn’t working,” stated Commissioner Damian Pardo.

    However neither are the proposed adjustments to that ordinance, in keeping with Miami residents who got here to Tuesday’s Sunshine assembly to “converse for the timber.”

    In line with town, the proposed tree ordinance adjustments search to “simplify the necessities needed to acquire a tree allow for all residents and enterprise entities inside the Metropolis to advertise growth, upkeep and administration of the tree cover inside the Metropolis.”

    Commissioners say the ordinance is geared toward streamlining the allowing course of to make it coherent and accessible for folks of all revenue ranges and to guard the tree cover.

    However Miami residents who lined as much as converse known as the adjustments flawed and misleading, saying they fear the ordinance has been influenced by constructing lobbyists and that it has an ulterior motive.

    “The commissioners are being disingenuous,” stated Steven Leidner with the Miami Sierra Membership. “In the event you learn via the ordinance, it’s completely biased in direction of diminishing our present cover.”
