    Trump taps Miami-Dade commissioner as ambassador to Panama

    MIAMI – President-elect Donald Trump introduced on Christmas that he intends to nominate Miami-Dade Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera as ambassador to Panama.

    Cabrera, of Coral Gables, is a staunch supporter of the president-elect and chaired his 2020 re-election marketing campaign in Florida as state director.

    His deliberate appointment comes as Trump threatens to take back the Panama Canal, which was as soon as underneath U.S. management.

    He referenced these threats in a Reality Social put up asserting Cabrera’s appointment, calling Panama, a U.S. ally, “a Nation that’s ripping us off” on the canal, “far past their wildest desires.”

    Cabrera, represents District 6 on the dais at county corridor after being elected in 2022.

    The district roughly centered round Miami Worldwide Airport and contains Miami Springs and Virginia Gardens, in addition to unincorporated areas and parts of Hialeah, Miami and Coral Gables.

    Cabrera attended South Miami Senior Excessive College, Miami Dade Faculty and Florida Worldwide College, the place he earned a level. He’s married to Republican State Rep. Demi Busatta Cabrera.
