RIO DE JANEIRO – Santa Claus has arrived in Rio de Janeiro — below water.
Beginning on Saturday, he’ll be noticed at AquaRio Marine Aquarium swimming with sharks throughout their every day fish feeding periods as a part of the town’s Christmas festivities.
9-year-old Guilherme Martins Matos mentioned he’d seen Santa — or at the least an impersonator — on the mall. That was cool, he mentioned, however this was higher.
“Think about him below water feeding the fish? It’s even cooler,” Guilherme informed The Related Press.
This model of Santa Claus is Felippe Luna, 39, a senior animal handler at AquaRio. What started as a joke amongst workers has change into an annual custom.
Dressed as Santa, Luna dives into the aquarium’s 924,602-gallon tank to feed marine animals, together with sharks. “For the youngsters, seeing Santa Claus below water is already unimaginable. And Santa feeding a shark by hand? That’s unforgettable,” Luna mentioned.
The Santa Claus dive runs every day at AquaRio by Dec. 25 at 1:30 p.m.
