The Knights made it official that Malzahn is leaving in a press release launched a day after UCF (4-8) concluded its season with a 28-14 loss to Utah.

“We wish to thank Coach Malzahn for his contributions to our soccer program over the previous 4 seasons, together with our transition into the Large 12 Convention,” the varsity mentioned. “We admire his professionalism and dedication to our student-athletes all through his tenure at UCF and need he and his spouse, Kristi, the easiest of their future endeavors.”

Malzahn completed with a 28-24 mark in 4 years at UCF, the final two ending with dropping information after becoming a member of the Large 12. He coached at Auburn for eight seasons earlier than being fired in 2020.

Malzahn replaces offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins, who was fired Nov. 10 following a 52-3 loss at Notre Dame. The Seminoles rank 131st out of 134 in whole offense and scoring offense, averaging 15.8 factors a sport heading into Saturday night time’s rivalry sport in opposition to Florida.

The Seminoles (2-9) have dropped considerably since going 13-1 final season and successful the Atlantic Coast Convention championship.

The Knights, in the meantime, struggled mightily in Malzahn’s fourth season — most of it due to quarterback points. 4 gamers took snaps from heart because the Knights completed 2-7 in convention play. It was this system’s worst report since going 0-12 in former coach George O’Leary’s closing season in 2015.

Florida State coach Mike Norvell fired Atkins, defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and receivers coach Ron Dugans amid the Seminoles’ season-long skid.
