    Trump speaks with Mexico’s president, claims an agreement to effectively close the border

    WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Two days after President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose sweeping new tariffs on Canada and Mexico as a part of his effort to crack down on unlawful immigration and medicines, he stated he spoke with the Mexican president and he or she “agreed to cease Migration by Mexico.”

    In a publish on his Fact Social account Wednesday night, Trump stated this was “successfully closing our Southern Border.” He referred to as it a “very productive dialog!”

    Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that she spoke with Trump, calling it an “wonderful dialog.”

    “We mentioned Mexico’s technique on migration points, and I advised him the caravans will not be reaching the northern (U.S.) border, as a result of Mexico is caring for them,” Sheinbaum wrote on social media. “We additionally talked about reinforcing cooperation on safety points, throughout the framework of our sovereignty, and the marketing campaign we’re finishing up to forestall fentanyl consumption.”

    It was unclear what impression the dialog could have on Trump’s plan to impose tariffs.

    Trump on Monday stated he would impose a 25% tax on all merchandise getting into the nation from Canada and Mexico as considered one of his first govt orders upon taking workplace on Jan. 20. In saying his plans on his Fact Social website, he railed in opposition to an inflow of migrants crossing into the U.S. illegally, although southern border apprehensions have been hovering close to four-year lows.
