TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A brand new Florida invoice would require some elementary college college students to be taught cursive writing.
The invoice, HB 921, would require all public colleges to offer cursive writing instruction to college students in grades 2 by way of 5. By the tip of fifth grade, each pupil should “reveal proficiency in studying and writing cursive by way of an analysis of written work,” the invoice states.
College students must write higher and lowercase letters in cursive, write phrases and sentences legibly with correct spacing and alignment and be capable to learn cursive writing.
If handed, the invoice would go into impact on July 1.
Presently, college students are taught cursive firstly of third grade to the tip of fifth grade. Nevertheless, colleges will not be required to make sure college students can learn and comprehend cursive writing.
Florida legislation doesn’t require colleges to offer cursive writing exams or evaluations.
