“Members, don’t be afraid to shake the tree of presidency, and pull out the weeds of waste, fraud or abuse. We’re the Home of Representatives. We’re the guardians of the taxpayer. We now have rightly pushed again on native governments for permitting the expansion in property taxes to drive spending. But when we’re sincere, now we have carried out the identical factor,” stated Speaker Perez.

“In my opinion, one of many causes DOGE has turn into so widespread on the federal degree is that Individuals have an issue with the concept that unelected federal bureaucrats have a lot unchecked authority,” stated Albritton.

Throughout the aisle, Democrats argue that Florida Republicans have been in cost for over 20 years, saying any waste or fraud should relaxation at their toes.

“If they will get out forward of it and say, effectively, we’d like a state doge and there is all this inefficiency, I believe, they assume, that may assist justify these cuts,” stated Minority Chief Fentrice Driskell. “I’m very involved as a result of it is the individuals of Florida who will lose out. And now we have to be smarter and wiser about that and take note of what they’re actually doing, which I believe is making an attempt to frankly, present some cowl, cowl their tails. What these cuts are about to come back.”

Lawmakers have filed almost 2,000 payments for the 2025 legislative session, however maybe the one which issues most is the state finances. And as Florida mirrors what’s being carried out on the federal degree, how a lot will fiscal duty will proceed to be high of thoughts?
